When the current folding table loom was designed in the late 1990’s, Ashford sought advice from weavers around the world to ensure they incorporated the most important features requested by weavers. The features requested were the overhung beater and the ability to fold and be portable. The compromise for having those two features was to forego a shuttle race.

Ashford has received requests over the years and have tried several designs and is delighted to advise that they have perfected it – it works so well; it is simple and does exactly what it needs to do.

It provides a supported race for the boat shuttle to glide over all the threads every single time. It flexes out of the way when beating and returns to its position for the next throw. 

Ashford has tested it extensively and even beginners who have never thrown a shuttle before were able to do so successfully with the shuttle race in place. 

The shuttle race eliminates shuttle diving and makes weaving faster and more enjoyable. 

But the absolutely best news is Ashford is also offering a retrofit kit – so the shuttle race can be fitted to all older Ashford folding table looms with the curved beater arms. The kit is quick and easy to install, it includes the shuttle race, new curved beater arms, bungy cords and spanners.
